Music Oasis has shown me that the appeal of Jazz music has truly expanded and became reinvented from the elements in African drumming, bluegrass hillbilly music, spiritual and hymn music, blues, impressionist, and classical traits to newer sounds. Jazz music became popular from radio and underground clubs that influenced other parts of the world.
Today the contemporary gospel music uses guitars, keyboard, piano, drums and brass instruments for their sound. One can usually tell during the ballads how Jazz chord harmonies are used in the keyboard and piano. The harmony in Barbershop music like Jazz came from the African American Black gospel church community which use close four part harmony without accompaniment. This particular style of music without accompaniment is known as A capella.

One of the selections I found enjoyable was the The New York Voices which happen to be a vocal jazz group that learned from other vocal jazz groups such as Take 6, The Manhattan Transfer and of course, Lionel Hampton. Their sound is identified as a jazz sound with classical, pop, Brazilian and R&B infused.
The New York Voices also helps high school and college students doing workshops and clinics. They have many projects teaching, writing, solo gigs as well as arranging. They are forever expanding their fan base by experimenting with all types of music.
Maybe it is just me, but along with getting into the music, I like to explore the people BEHIND the music. Come on a journey of enlightenment with me, Music Oasis is going to continue to be my first stop for music.

Nothing is more of an inviting end to a hard day then to be sitting here listening to the music of my choice. I am one of those music lovers that is all over the place! I enjoy Stevie Ray Vaughn as well as Patsy Cline; Johnny Cash as well as George Clinton; Otis Redding, B.B. King and Howling Wolf rank among my favorites.
Of course there are some more recent artists that I enjoy such as Erica Badu, Ledisi and Jill Scott just to name a few. But my experience with Music Oasis has been one that is ever growing! Life has truly changed for me since purchasing my android, but that another post! Limewire was a great find but with all the legal issues . . . well you know what happened.
